Detox Day 3 :-)

November 11th, 2009

Happy Veteran’s Day to all of my family and friends who have served our country courageously. God Bless you for the work and dedication you gave our country to ensure every one’s freedoms!

Today begain with my yoga stretches, fiber, and a short workout on the elliptical before showering and setting off with my husband and children to the Veteran’s Day Parade.

Day three of the 9 Day Nutritional Detox begins  8-10 ounces of fresh fruit (I am still rocking the green grapes and apples) and raw nuts or seeds (we have brazil nuts - not my favorite, but they will do in a pinch).  Lunch and dinner are interchangeable with fruit or veggies and some quality protein.

I went to the gym with my daughter late in the afternoon, went home to refill waterbottles and run some errands and then back to the gym we went for another cardio workout with some light weights.

Today was a very fun day with the kids and my husband home! Now everyone goes back to school and work tomorrow.

I am struggling with the water intake. I know I am very low in my intake. With all the workouts I got in today it really should have been easier to get all that water in. I will make a point to get closer to my water intake goal tomorrow!! Until then… “Rock ON my Detox Divas!”

Day 2 :-)

November 10th, 2009

Today I woke shortly after 5:30am. I had a glass of water, took my probiotics, did some stretching.

It’s 8am and I have had my fiber, my EFA’s, a second glass of water, some raw brazil nuts and freshly juiced tomato, carrot and celery juice.

I have a busy morning, so am packing two water bottles with water and unsweetened cranberry juice and carrots, celery, peppers and grape tomatoes to munch on at lunch.

I teach a Yoga-Lates class at 11am, if you are in Butler… all are welcome!

Day One :-)

November 9th, 2009

I woke up shortly after 5am (because that’s when Mike leaves for work) and started my day with a large glass of water and my probiotics. 20 minutes later I followed that with another glass of water with some fiber (Purifying Cleanse II from a company called Entrenet - it’s a combination of psyllium husk and apple fiber. And it’s not too gritty and actually didn’t taste bad mixed with some unsweetened cranberry juice. I clumsily went through 3 bi-lateral rotations (leading with both left and right side) of Yoga Sun Salutations. I am really out of practice and need to do these more often. Oh yea… every morning now on the 9 Day Detox ;). Before leaving for the office I took my EPA/DHA (liquid.. not real wild about the flavor… now I know why Mikey calls it “drinking butter”). I have had an apple and about 1/2 cup of grapes and am now on my 2nd water bottle of liquid chlorophyll. Not really hungry, but after I check my blood under the microscope I will have another apple and maybe a pear!

Feeling very good, no headache, no hunger pains, no “brain fog”.

Later today, going to the gym to exercise!!

I’ll check back in later and give you an update! Please let me know how YOU are doing … my “Detox Divas!”

I finished the day with a good (not great) aerobic workout at the gym, came home and had some lovely green grapes that were so crunchy (I was craving crunch) and another apple.

I tried to stay up for the Steelers game, but was just too tired. I think I fell asleep around 10pm.

9 Day Nutritional Detox

November 8th, 2009

I recently finished my November Newsletter and after writing about the benefits of heading into the holiday season by preparing the body with a detox made me think, “It’s TIME FOR MY OWN DETOX”. If not now, when? Why not now? When is it NOT a good time to detox… when you are suffering and weak with chronic illness, when you have cancer, when you are already actively ill with the flu. If you are otherwise a healthy individual, under the care of a natural health care practitioner it is very safe and recommended to detox and cleanse your body! I recommend that you cleanse and detox seasonally! We clean our homes, well we should… :-), we wash our cars, why not cleanse our bodies… ON THE INSIDE!

Our bodies general detoxification Systems include:

  • Respiratory - lungs, bronchial tubes, throat, sinuses, and nose
  • Gastrointestinal - liver, gallbladder, colon and whole GI tract
  • Urinary - kidneys, bladder and urethra
  • Skin and dermal - sweat and sebaceous glands and tears
  • Lymphatic - lymph channels and lymph nodes

I am starting the 9 day nutritional detox tomorrow and will post here daily, what foods I am eating, how I am exercising, how I am feeling… if you care to tune in you can read along, if you care to join me… EVEN BETTER! Give me a call if you would like to start the detox and travel this road along with me! 724-407-8017.

Yours in Health,
Dr. Julie

Snack ideas

January 11th, 2009

Things I like to have around to snack on… Yes I snack… I LOVE TO EAT!!  :D

  • Have carrots, celery and multi-colored peppers on hand all the time.
  • Zuchini and yellow squash are really yummy when cut into strips and eaten with humus or vegie dip.
  • Raw almonds and cashews.
  • Organic peanut butter on brown rice cakes.
  • When really hungry I will have a protein shake (I LOVE vanilla whey from Entrenet)

Recipes:

  • Vegie dip - plain yogurt with a few teaspoons of Hidden Valley Ranch powdered mix and about a teaspoon of lemon juice (I know there is maltodextrin in the mix, but maltodextrin is made from natural foods - rice, corn or potatoes)
To change up the vegie dip you can also add some thawed frozen spinach and a bit of Knorr’s vegie soup mix.
  • Humus - in a food processor combine garbanzo beans (I like dried beans - they take forever to cook and soften, but the flavor is so much better than the canned ones) olive oil, flax seed oil, garlic (I roast it to make it sweeter and nuttier), cumin, dried pepper flakes, chili powder and a good squeeze of lemon juice, fresh cracked black pepper and sea salt. I will change this up by sometimes adding roasted red peppers or turmeric.

Breakfast: Three egg whites, sauteed yellow squash, zuchini, onions and green peppers with a brown rice cake

Lunch: 1 Scoop of each: Entrenet vanilla whey, Ultimate GreenZone, Untra InflamX with lots of ice and whipped up with a stick blender. I NEVER just shake my protein shakes. I always use a stick blender or the counter top blender to mix them up so the ice is finely crushed and so I dont get CLUMPS of whey.

Dinner: Mike is making White Clam Sauce :D
You can find Mike’s yummy recipe here … http://ourspecialgarden.bizland.com/id118.html   I was craving pasta…. something to twirl on my fork. Try this with rice pasta ;)

Fluids: Every day detox tea, water with liquid chlorophyll

Exercise: 25 minutes in the elliptical, lower body resistance, 15 minutes on the treadmill, Sunsalutations 5 times bi-laterally
